Overall if you like dark romance, have a fear kink, are cool with reading psychological terror, and can handle reading numerous sexual assault scenes then you’ll probably enjoy this. It seemed like every single person she met wanted to fuck her and harass her which was annoying. Rika was repeatedly sexually assaulted and harassed. I didn’t like how much sexual assault was in this book. Also do’t get why no one thinks ‘uh this is weird’ about the whole situation!?! Although I will admit that I liked how Michael and Rika have revenge/emotional masochism sex on Trevor’s bed that made me laugh because I guess I’m an evil person? If you crush on a guy how can you fuck his brother!?! I just…don’t understand. This trope of someone having sex or dating both sibling comes up in a book my response always stays the same: I hate it. It even includes a M/F/M sex scene (although I’m still trying to understand these character’s rationale behind why they did the threesome and how zero awkwardness is left behind in that scenario given the context of this story but maybe that’s just my ace jumping out?!?!) I do wish they had leaned into the fear kink even more than it did. Michael is both a emotional sadist and an emotional masochist. If you like Harley Laroux books ( The Dare and the Halloween one specifically) you might like this one. Rika is someone who gets turned on my fear. Otherwise the it just looks like dubious consent in a few scenes. I do wish that Michael and Rika has established a safeword in the book. Also their gap is closer to three years based on how their birthdays fall and they were in high school at the same time, so that lessened the creep factor (because I don’t like age gaps with teens). I was worried about the age gap part from the summary (I don’t like age gaps when they involve teenagers), but it was actually handled well of not only how a sixteen year old someone spent an evening of crime with a bunch of twenty year olds, but how Michael held himself back even when he was attracted to her. This was such an interesting story because it’s part horror, part thriller, and part erotica with a soap opera ending. Because three years ago, she put his friends away and now they are out. The city where her boyfriend’s older brother lives. “Run all you want, Little Monster,” he said, sounding like a threat.
